A site-map is like an org-chart for a company - the bigger the company (website), the more levels of depth are required. For Blue Monkey, 4 levels are required:

1. Main Section ('Cruises')
2. Sub-Section ('Featured Cruises')
3. Page(s)

This structure can accomodate 30 to 50 sub-categories and hundreds of distinct pages.

Note that 'Cruise Detail' and 'Read Article' are each considered a 'single page-template' in the sitemap, even though they can display many different cruises and articles!

Every page must have a logical 'place' in the website hierarchy. However, a subsection can still be very prominent if promoted and linked from the homepage and other high-traffic pages.

Although a 'Search' box can exist on many pages, there is normally only one 'Search Results' page. So regardless what page they initiate a search from, they will end up on the search results page.

The same applies to viewing a specific cruise or article. All links to cruises/articles will take you to the area/page designated for viewing that item.

However, it is easy to repeat the same page in multiple sections, if advantageous.

If you 'Print Preview' this page, you will see that the 'extraneous' navigation elements will not print. This is because 'styles' have been added to hide these sections when printing. These styles can also modify font-size, colors, borders, etc.

Conversely, there can be parts of the page that are normally 'hidden', like a printed-page header, which show only when printing.

Most pages in the site should be print-optimized. 'Cruise info' and article pages in particular should be designed for effective printing - in color or B&W.

This is effective for marketing - and encourages users to print more because they don't waste ink and paper due to tabs, sidebars, and skinny columns.
